Loehr Lightning Protection Co. was founded in 1947 by Joseph J. Loehr, Jr. and later owned and managed by B.K. Loehr, who served as president from 1980 to 2013. Still family owned and operated, the company has played an important role in many of Virginia's finest projects. Based on reputation and expertise, we have served as consultants for large corporations such as Philip Morris, Dominion VA Power, Anheuser-Busch, QVC, Walmart and Verizon Telecommunications. For nearly seventy years, we have been the state's leader in lightning protection with countless commercial, historical and residential projects to our credit.
In 1985, we were contracted to design and install a concealed lightning protection system for the USS Sequoia Presidential Yacht. In 1989, we installed a system on the Ahmet Ertegun (CEO-Atlantic Records) residence in Southampton, NY, having been recommended by a Charlottesville architectural firm. In 1991, we were commissioned to install an updated lightning protection system in conjunction with the 1991 Monticello new roof renovation proiect. In 2004, we designed and installed the lightning protection system for the John Paul Jones Arena at the University of Virginia. In 2014, we designed and installed the lightning protection system on the existing Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. We are considered historic specialists in our field and no project is considered too small or too large. Some recognizable names of our Virginia customers are: Thalhimer, Gottwald, Carter, Reynolds, Ukrop, Robins, Tyler, Massey, Wheat, Bruce Hornsby, Jimmy Dean, Gov. L. Douglas Wilder and numerous others.
We are listed installers with Underwriter's Laboratories, elected members of the United Lightning Protection Association (ULPA), the Lightning Protection Institute (LPI) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
